Here’s the first trailer for the sequel to one of the most testosterone overloaded films of all time (short of Expendables), 300! In this new film, 300: Rise of an Empire, we get to see what exactly happened after the events of the first film, which was based on the Frank Miller graphic novel of the same name and gave a fictionalized retelling of the Battle of Thermopylae. I won’t leave any spoilers here, but come on people! This movie came out in 2006!
Where 300 focused on King Leonidas and his 300 Spartans, this film will focus on Themistocles and the “God King” Xerxes. We also get to witness the Battle of Artemisium and learn a bit about how Xerxes rose to power. Not much else is known other than Artemisia playing a pivotal role and the return of Leonidas’s wife, Queen Gorgo.
300: Rise of an Empire will star Sullivan Stapleton as Themistocles, Lena Headey returning as Queen Gorgo, Eva Green as Artemisia, and Rodrigo Santoro returning as King Xerxes. Zack Snyder takes the role of producer this time out, and hands the reins of director over to Noam Murro.
