The Dragonball Z Franchise has been decades in the making and come close to the same recognition as Disney’s Mickey mouse. Movies, Books, cards, toys and etc, have been created for the amusement of fans, including video games over a large number of popular consoles. One game in particular, Dragonball Z Legends on the PSOne and Sega Saturn, introduced a Dragonball Z game that included the ability to fight multiple opponents at the same time. This game gave the feel of what was shown on TV, which on more than one occasion, two to four characters battled each other and helped each others out of near death situations. I remember playing Legends, wondering how it would be great if there was a DBZ game with the ability to fight up to 3 other human players in a team fashion. Years later, there were PC Quake mods, like Bid for power, that gave a try in creating a multiplayer environment with more of a shooter vibe, with very little control over the melee part of the fighting engine.
PSOne DRAGONBALL Z LEGENDS
Moving on a few years later, Sony’s PSP received a game, named Dragonaball Z Tenkaichi Tag Team, that was released with an engine of gameplay close to resembling what I envisioned a multiplayer DBZ should play and feel. The multiplayer included team and non-team battle of 4 players, wide fighting area and multiple team attacks, but something was still missing. A more extensive and detailed story mode and more multiple attacks that affect more that one character on-screen, would have been a plus.
PSP DRAGONBALL Z TENKAICHI TAG TEAM
Now recently, a new DBZ game was announced for 360, PS3 and PS Vita with the ability to play 4 player coop and 8 player online battles in teams of 4. The trailer showcased a battle with the giant ape Vegeta as the antagonist against 4 coop players throwing everything they had at him. This is one of the first battles I thought of in an ultimate Dragonball Z game with multi-play options, when I bought DBZ Legends for PSOne, years ago . The game was only announced for Europe out side of Japan for the time being, but most likely we will be hearing about a U.S release mirroring with the other announced regions. We still have to wait and see if this game will truly be the ultimate multiplayer DBZ game, but by the look of the trailer, it is pretty darn close. Tell me if this new chapter in the Madden-like yearly edition of the series is your idea of the ultimate DBZ multiplayer game. 8)
