Ghost in the Shell: Arise Full Trailer Released!

Early in The Realist’s inception we talked about this new development in the Ghost in the Shell franchise and it looks like it is almost ready for release! This is a prequel to the long running anime/manga series which will feature 4 episodes running at 50 minutes each. The anime is being helmed by Kise Kazuchika of Blood: The Last Vampire and Neon Genesis Evangelion fame. The story synopsis is as follows –

“In 2027, one year after the end of the Fourth Non-Nuclear War, the guttural town of New Port City is plagued with one mass tragedy after another. Enter Public Security Section’s Daisuke Aramaki to lead an investigation along with Batou better known to the criminal scourge as “the man with the eye that does not sleep.” Running parallel to this investigation is the military’s clandestine 501st Secret Unit, which happens to count Motoko Kusanagi, the cyborg, wizard-level hacker amongst its many members. Also investigating these events is the Niihama Prefectural Police detective Togusa. When all three investigations cross paths, secrets will be revealed and terrible truths unearthed.”

I’m super excited about this mini series which will be releasing in Japanese theaters this June and hitting bluray and dvd in July. What do you think? Let us know!

  1. I’m not really sure what I expect of this series. On the one hand, is it really necessary? The original TV series was a really solid show and I’d hate to see this new one not live up to the GiTS name. On the other hand, I’m not one to bash an anime before I’ve seen it, and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t curious.

    • Necessary? Probably not. Interesting? Could be. I think the idea of seeing the formation of Section 9 would be fun, but honestly… watching Section 9 do what they do best is more interesting. I feel the same as you it seems. There’s definitely interest. But there’s also a fair amount of trepidation. Lets just hope this one lives up to the franchise. It has people from the previous projects involved so hopefully some of that mojo rubs off!
